‘Tango Nuevo’ at Istanbul Music Festival
ISTANBUL
The 44th Istanbul Music Festival organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) continues with a performance by the Isabelle van Keulen Ensemble and their latest project, “Tango Nuevo,” composed by Astor Piazzolla. As an internationally renowned violinist and violist, Isabelle van Keulen appears as the soloist of leading orchestras and has been deeply involved with chamber music projects along with her ensemble, which she founded in 2011. Comprised of leading performers of their generation, bandoneon player Christian Gerber, double bass player Rüdiger Ludwig, pianist Ulrike Payer and violinist van Keulen, the ensemble will inspire the audience with the musical intensity, poignant beauty and melancholy of Piazzolla’s music in the woodland of the German Embassy’s Tarabya Summer Residence.
Meanwhile, on June 17 at İş Sanat the festival will host the Beethoven Academy Orchestra, one of Poland’s leading symphony orchestras. It will make its debut in Istanbul with two concerts under the baton of acclaimed Polish conductor Jacek Kaspszyk.
The concert will also feature the Turkey premiere of one of the most important musical discoveries of recent years, Polish composer Weinberg’s “Symphony No. 4.”
On the final weekend of the festival, weekend classics will be held on June 19 in the Garden of Sakıp Sabancı Museum, where the new, young and dynamic cello quartet 4Cellos will perform an array of beautiful pieces, ranging from Villa-Lobos to Debussy, reflecting the deep and soft sounds of the cello. Young multiple-award-winning cellist Poyraz Baltacıgil will also join the quartet for Max Brunch’s piece “Kol Nidrei,” as a guest musician.
