Syrian refugee finds gold in bin, hands it to police in Turkey’s southeast

A Syrian refugee who found gold worth 25,000 Turkish Liras when rummaging through junk in a garbage container in the southeastern province of Adıyaman has handed the money to the police, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Jan. 3.

“My brother-in-law found gold inside a black bag when searching for junk in the trash bin. We took it to the Martyr Ahmet Yıldırım Police Station with an imam,” Yahya El Recco, the man’s relative, said.

“God willing, the owner will be found,” Recco added.

Zekeriya Tütüncü, who found the gold, is a 35-year-old with mental disabilities and has difficulties speaking.

Tütüncü came to me with the gold, and we took it to the nearest police station, the imam said.

The police, thanking Tütüncü for his honest act, are investigating who the owner of the gold is.
