‘Sylvia’ on stage after years

ISTANBUL - Anatolia News Agency
The İzmir State Opera and Ballet (İZDOB) has announced plans to stage French composer Leo Delibes’ three-act ballet “Sylvia” for the first time in 37 years.

The ballet will be on stage on April 20 at the Sabancı Culture Center with the new and unique choreography of Mark Ribaud from the Swedish Royal Opera and Ballet.

The orchestra of “Sylvia,” which is very hard to stage because of its crowded staff, will be conducted by İZDOB General Music Director and conductor Tulio Gagliardo Varas. The ballet was staged for the last time in Turkey in 1976. Ribaud said it was one of the best examples of classical ballet and invited art lovers to see a story of love and the struggle of good and evil. He said Turkish ballet dancers should take the stage more often in the international arena.
