Backing among voters for the party dropped from 39 percent at nationwide local elections in March and from 47 percent at ageneral election in 2007, Ankara-based Metropoll said in the e-mailed survey yesterday.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s party was most criticized for failing to stem a rise in unemployment and for its handling of the economic crisis, according to the survey. Metropoll interviewed 1,270 people in 30 provinces of the country between May 8 and May 15. Margin of error was 2.75percentage points, it said.
