Soldier, PKK militant killed in clashes in southeastern Turkey

A Turkish soldier and a militant were killed in clashes in the southeastern province of Hakkari today.A squadron of soldiers patrolling the road between Hakkari's Yüksekova and Esendere districts spotted a group of militants from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) planting a landmine on the road.
A firefight erupted between the soldiers and the militants, leading to the deaths of the still unidentified Turkish soldier and the militant.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
