Soldier dies in mine explosion

One Turkish soldier was killed yesterday by suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) when he stepped on a mine in the southeastern province of Şırnak’s Uludere district.
Gendarmerie soldier Musa Topaloğlu was conducting a mine-sweeping task when one of the mines exploded.
Topaloğlu will be buried later today after prayers in his hometown of Sivas in Central Anatolia.
Meanwhile, three soldiers were wounded and a PKK militant was killed in the southern province of Hatay yesterday during a PKK attack on a gendarmerie station.
Two PKK members were killed in a subsequent operation.
