Soldier dies after fall from rocks
HATAY
A captain who fell from a rocky area on a mountain while taking part in land search efforts in the southern province of Hatay on May 9 has died. Gendarmerie Captain Rıza Fırat, 31, was heavily wounded when he fell from the rocks in the Nur Mountains and was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Fırat was involved in operations against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and was a part of the Turkish Special Forces Command, known as the Maroon Berets, Doğan News Agency reported.
His funeral will be held in the southeastern province of Adıyaman.
