Smugglers take 13 undocumented migrants to Turkish dam instead of Lesbos
AYVACIK
Some 13 migrants who were taken to the Ayvacık Dam in Turkey’s western Çanakkale province by smugglers who promised them the Lesbos Island of Greece by way of the Aegean Sea have instead been apprehended by law enforcement officials, Doğan News Agency reported on March 8.
The local gendarmerie units, who acted upon an incoming report regarding undocumented migrants at the dam, went and apprehended the group of Iraqi, Syrian and Afghan nationals.
The group, including women and children, were then taken to the local gendarmerie station and will be handed to the Ayvacık Deportation Bureau, the agency reported.
