Shota Arveladze expected to take helm at Trabzonspor
ISTANBUL
Spor Toto Super League club Trabzonspor is expected to sign a coaching contract with its former player Shota Arveladze, following the surprise resignation of Ersun Yanal.Yanal announced his resignation on July 1 amid reports of disagreement with sports director Süleyman Hurma over the players to be included in the pre-season squad. Yanal wanted to leave some of Trabzonspor’s foreign players out, but Hurma insisted they could not be sold and should be part of the preparations, according to media reports.
The Black Sea club wasted no time and opened talks with former Georgian international striker Arveladze, who scored 61 goals for the club from 1993 to 1997, becoming the league’s top scorer in the 1995-1996 season.
Arveladze started his coaching career at Kayserispor in 2010 before moving to Kasımpaşaspor in 2012. He resigned in March this year after a 2-1 loss to Konyaspor.
Former Turkey international coach Yanal, meanwhile, is no stranger to surprise resignations. The experienced coach left his coaching position at Gençlerbirliği in June 2007 just two days after signing a contract, citing a disagreement with club chairman İlhan Cavcav over transfer policy.
