A senior U.S. diplomat has said that sanctions against Iran are still in place and urged Turkey to act accordingly.Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David Cohen was in Turkey to convey the Obama administration’s message that the latest rapprochement between the U.S. and Iran did not mean that the sanctions were relaxed. The U.S. diplomat said promises given by Iran would be watched carefully and the worries of some countries should be removed first.
Cohen reportedly urged Turkey to show the required sensitivity on the issue and reiterated the warnings made to Turkey over Halkbank and other institutions.
