Russian woman dies, husband injured in parasailing crash in southern Turkey

A 29-year-old Russian woman has died and her husband has been injured after they plunged into the sea with a parasailing parachute off the Mediterranean province of Antalya.Elena Chumaev, a Russian tourist vacationing with her husband Ivan Chumaev, 36, in a hotel in Antalya’s Kemer district died after the parasailing parachute being towed by a motorboat fell into the sea after the wind changed direction at around 11 a.m. on Sept. 7.
The Chumaev couple was taken ashore after the motorboat’s captain cut the rope of the parachute.
Medical staff and gendarmerie forces were dispatched to the scene after being informed by the hotel administration.
Elena Chumaev was declared dead and her husband was taken to the Akdeniz University Medical School Hospital for treatment.
The incident comes less than two months after a Russian tourist Nadezhda Popovich was dead and her daughter Olesia Bulatova was injured after the two fell from an inflatable boat at a water sports center in nearby Kemer.
