All roads and bridges will be free of charge during the Şeker Bayram holiday, and Istanbul residents will be able to park in the municipality’s roadside parking lots for free as well.

All highways and bridges will be free of charge from Aug. 18 to 22 in order to contribute to citizens’ travel budgets, announced Transport Minister Binali Yıldırım. In a statement made on Aug. 14 Yıldırım said: “Unlike previous years, this year all roads and bridges will operate without charge for five days, including the day before the holiday and one day after the holiday.”

Furthermore, according to a written statement from Istanbul Parking Operations (İSPARK), as requested by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, İSPARK’s over 500 roadside parking spots around Istanbul will be complimentary to use on August 19 and 20, while parking fees will still be charged in parking lots and garages. The statement warned citizens to beware of unauthorized people who may try to take advantage of the situation by demanding money on days when parking is free of charge and asked residents to report these people.
