A 21-year-old man has been arrested in the Black Sea province of Samsun for raping a girl for the second time amid a continuing lawsuit into the first instance of alleged sexual assault, daily Milliyet reported today.

Samet Avcı was taken into custody in 2009 following his girlfriend's complaint that he raped her. The court, however, released him pending trial.

Avcı performed his military service while the case was continuing.

Avcı allegedly raped the same girl again when he came on leave to Samsun in September last year. The court arrested Avcı after the girl, C.D., filed a new complaint.

The court has postponed hearings from the initial case while ruling to merge the two lawsuits.
