Reading of indictment finally over

The decision to read the whole indictment was criticized by some of the suspects, who already having been detained for several months, demanded the chance to give their defense as soon as possible.

There are 86 defendants in the case, including retired generals, politicians, academics, and journalists, accused of forming a criminal gang in an attempt to facilitate the overthrow of the government by the military. The reading of the indictment took the court 11 trials over nine days. It took two prosecutors around 40 hours to read the whole indictment. The trial yesterday continued with the demands of the defendant’s lawyers.
