ANKARA - Anatolia News Agency
Ankara State Opera and Ballet soprano Selva Erdener and her group Turkuaz Quintet will perform Anatolian folksongs in an “opera format” May 20 at 8 p.m. at the Ankara State Opera and Ballet’s Operet Stage. The concert will be accompanied by İbrahim Yazıcı on piano, Ekrem Öztan on clarinet, Ahmet Baran on kanun, Alper Müfettişoğlu in contrabass and Aykut Köselerli on percussion.
The quintet formed five years ago, and has enriched its repertoire with folksongs, Erdener said, speaking to Anatolia news agency. The group has performed concerts in Turkey and abroad and received great interest from audiences. “This is the first time we will perform at the Operet Stage, my home,” Erdener said.
Erdener has recorded two albums, and said she will be performing some songs from her albums. A Dutch festival organizer heard her voice while visiting Turkey’s Black Sea region and contacted her, Erdener said. “That was how we came to perform at the Enschede Festival in the Netherlands. We performed folksongs and works by Turkish composers. I am a Turkish soprano and I want to introduce the folksongs of my country to the world.”
