Qatar Airways commences direct flights between Doha and Turkey’s Hatay

Qatar Airways has commenced its direct flights between Doha and Turkey’s southern province of Hatay.

The first plane of the airline landed in Hatay on April 4.

The new route will be served three times per week by an Airbus A320, featuring 12 seats in Business Class and 132 seats in Economy Class, according to an earlier company release.

The Hatay Airport thus became the fifth destination of the carrier in Turkey after the two airports in Istanbul, Esenboğa Airport in Ankara and Şakirpaşa Airport in Adana.

Hatay, also known as Antakya, is known for its many well-preserved ancient Roman mosaics, as well as its traditional products including olive oil soap, fine silk and delicious local cuisine.

At a ceremony to mark the carrier’s first flight to Hatay, Qatar Airways Southeastern Europe Director Ferit Aksun said that total weekly flights to Turkey would increase up to 41 with the opening of new routes in Bodrum and Antalya.

“Turkey has become quite popular among our clients who travel for business or entertainment reasons … Hatay will make a key contribution to our international flight network,” Aksun added.

Qatar Airways connects Turkey to over 150 destinations via its Hamad International Airport (HIA), and also offers connecting flights from the Fast East, Australia and the Middle East.
