A young university student underwent successful surgery today after being attacked by police during a dawn raid on campers protesting government plans to cut down trees in Taksim Gezi Park.Hazar Berk Büyüktunca's family and friends were waiting for him at Şişli Etfal Hospital in Istanbul during the operation.
He had received injuries to his ears and genital area after entering an altercation with police.
His situation was reported as stable, but he could remain at hospital under medical care for a couple of days, according to a hospital source.
Büyüktunca was among a group of young demonstrators who spent a third night at the park in an effort to halt the controversial demolition.
