Probe launched into policemen for sharing video during Kobane protests
ŞIRNAK - Doğan News Agency
An investigation has been launched into four police officers for sharing footage showing them mocking and firing tear gas canisters at protestors during the Kobane street protests of Oct. 6-7, 2014, in the southeastern Turkish province of Şırnak’s Cizre district. In a written statement issued on May 17, the Şırnak Governorate stated that a probe had been launched into four policemen who shared on social media a video showing them firing tear gas canisters from inside an anti-riot vehicle in Cizre and “talking and behaving negatively.”
The footage was taken during the protests over the siege on the Kurdish-populated town Kobane in northern Syria, which is close to the Turkish border. Dozens of lives were lost during the unrest, amid anger at the government’s perceived inaction against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’s (ISIL) advance.
