Pro-coup sniper on Istanbul’s Bosphorus Bridge tower shot dead during coup attempt

A sniper from the faction within the Turkish military that attempted to carry out a coup was shot dead by special operations police on the night of July 15, after climbing up the Asian-side tower of Istanbul’s Bosphorus Bridge and targeted civilians confronting the soldiers on the bridge.The sniper, who allegedly shot several civilians from the tower of the bridge, was later shot dead by a police officer, sources said, adding that his body was later found on the bridge deck.
Meanwhile, a number of police officers were targeted by pro-coup soldiers as they pursued a group of pro-coup military officers in the service passageway under the bridge.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s motorcycle convoy officer, Kemal Tosun, who was assisting the special operations office chief on the night of the coup attempt, is also reported to have been shot dead during the attack.
