Policeman disciplined over insult to Gezi victim Berkin Elvan on Facebook

The Istanbul Security Directorate has suspended the police officer who slandered 15-year-old Gezi victim Berkin Elvan on his Facebook account.In a written statement, the Directorate announced that a message the policeman shared on social media “can neither be approved nor accepted.”
“As instructed by the governor, the police officer has been suspended and an investigation has been initiated,” the statement added.
Istanbul Governor Hüseyin Avni Mutlu also tweeted about the incident, describing the message as “bad and ugly.” Mutlu added that the police officer was “quickly punished after he received several complaints.”
