ISTANBUL - Doğan News Agency
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was discharged from the hospital yesterday at 5:30 p.m. following a surgery he underwent on his digestive system in Istanbul’s Marmara University Training and Research Hospital in the Pendik district Nov. 26.
Erdoğan completed a successful laparoscopic operation Nov. 26 and will return to work after a period of convalescence to be determined by doctors, according to a statement issued by his office Nov. 27.
Erdoğan was last seen in public Nov. 25 when he held Friday prayers at a mosque in Istanbul.
The operation came two days after he addressed a meeting of his Justice and Development Party (AKP) where he extended an apology over the killing of thousands of Alevis in a 1938 military operation in Dersim, present day Tunceli, igniting a row over the role of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) in the atrocities. He travelled to Istanbul that evening after a meeting with Qatar’s prime minister.
