‘Plane tagger’ fined for first time in Turkey

There has been an increase in 'plane tagging' in recent years.

Turkish authorities have fined a man who was “tagging” landing planes with a laser pointer, marking the first fine for this act.

The man, whose identity was not disclosed, faces an administrative fine of 10,000 Turkish Liras, according to the Twitter account of Turkey’s General Directorate of Civilian Aviation (SHGM).

In recent years, there has been an increase in “plane tagging.” The SHGM updated its regulations late last year, enabling it to issue fines for those who risk flight security.  No one had been fined this year until the latest incident.
