PKK kidnaps 10 near border

Members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) kidnapped 10 employees working on the construction of a road in the eastern province of Ağrı on the evening of May 28.Security forces have reportedly launched a sweeping operation in the area to locate and rescue the hostages, according to the website of private broadcaster CNNTürk.
The 10 employees were on their way back to the neighboring province of Iğdır when PKK militants stopped their vehicles in the vicinity of the Korhan Plateau on the outskirts of Mt. Ararat. The militants then set three automobiles ablaze while kidnapping engineer Mehmet Tan, lawyer Serkan Gültekin, contractor Fikri Güner, carpenter Zafer Alagöz and six others.
The militants also seized the passports of two Azerbaijani workers before releasing them, according to reports.
The PKK is recognized as a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
