Turkey’s easternmost province ‘old haunt’ of birds
Turkey’s easternmost province ‘old haunt’ of birds
The Turkish province of Iğdır bordering Armenia, Iran and Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic hosts some 330 bird species during the spring season.
Despite the fact that the landlocked province makes up less than 2 percent of Turkey’s area with about 3,600 square kilometers, 70 percent of Aves observed across the country fly over here.
After a 13 year study, researchers have established that Iğdır is located on a prominent migration route. This photo shows a female ruff (Calidris pugnax) in Iğdır.
“It has been revealed that the birds migrate through Iğdır. It shows the importance of Iğdır for the worldwide scientific and ornithological studies,” Ayşegül Çoban, an ornithologist from Iğdır University, told Anadolu Agency on April 17.
