Turkey’s Black Sea highlands next big thing in tourism
Turkey’s Black Sea highlands next big thing in tourism
Turkey’s western and southern coasts, known as the Turkish Riviera, remain as the main destination for millions of tourists visiting Turkey, but the country’s Black Sea highlands could be the next big thing in tourism. Click through for the story in photos...
Tourists attracted by the green plateaus of Turkey’s northern mountains enjoy cooler weather but others burn under a scorching sun in the south of the country. Perşembe Plateau near the Black Sea city of Ordu is one of these places where tourists enjoy the chilly temperatures.
Hasan Doğan, a restaurant owner at Perşembe, told state-run Anadolu Agency on June 12 that they have had their business in the same place for the past 14 years and they saw a steep hike in the number of tourists in last two years.
“Both domestic and foreign tourists come here. This is one of the last unspoiled plateaus in Turkey. There are houses and hostels to stay,” he added.
At an altitude of 1,500 meters, Perşembe Plateau presents its visitors breathtaking views of natural lakes and waterfalls. In summers, oil wrestling competitions, football tournaments, horse and off-road car racing events are organized.
“This place gives a person peace of mind, but it has started to be so crowded during festival times,” Ömer Duran, a tourist, told the agency.
