Imam Abdullah Zawiya, an Islamic hermitage center from the 12th century dynasty of Artuklids in Batman province’s Hasankeyf district, was moved on vehicles to its new place on Sept. 10.
The special operation took one hour and 40 minutes.
Some locals cried as the zawiya was moved to its new place in the Hasankeyf New Cultural Park Field that would host other buildings moved from the flood basin.
Artuklu Bath and the 650-year-old Zeynel Bey Shrine were moved earlier within the scope of the project.
All historic artifacts in the ancient town of Hasankeyf, which will be submerged by the floodwaters of Turkey’s fourth biggest dam, Ilısu, will be moved this year.
A 350 million Turkish Lira fund was allocated for the transportation, protection and reinforcement of historical artifacts.
