Photos surface of Saudis allegedly sent to kill journalist Khashoggi
A Turkish newspaper published photos on Oct. 10 of what it said was a 15 member “assassination squad” allegedly sent to target Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who went missing after entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul last week. The report by the Sabah newspaper published images and names of the men apparently taken at passport control on Oct. 2, as well as the hotels they stayed at in Istanbul. Click through for the list, however, faces have been blurred by the Hürriyet Daily News due to the sensitive nature of the issue.
1) Salah M. A. T.: Born in 1971, arrived Turkey at 3:38 a.m. and left at 8:29 p.m. He traveled with a private jet both in arrival and departure. Daily Akşam claimed in a report on Oct. 10 that he is a military official who heads Saudi Arabia's forensics body. According to the newspaper, nine of the 15 Saudis in the list bought suitcases from Istanbul's Grand Bazaar but did not take them back to their countries when they departed Turkey. All the suspects reportedly went to their hotels after they landed in Istanbul and then visited the consulate before they left Turkey.
2) Meshal S. M. A.: Born in 1987, arrived Turkey at 1:45 a.m. and left with a private jet at 9:46 p.m.
3) Naif H. S. A.: Born in 1986, arrived Turkey with a charter flight at 4:12 p.m. and left with a private jet at 9:45 p.m.
4) Muhammad S. H. A.: Born in 1988, arrived Turkey with a charter flight at 4:29 p.m. and left with a private jet at 9:44 p.m.
5) Mansour O. M. A.: Born in 1972, arrived Turkey with a charter flight at 4:13 p.m. and left at 9:45 p.m.
6) Khalid A. G. A.: Born in 1988, arrived Turkey with a charter flight at 1:44 a.m. and left at 8:28 p.m.
7) Abdulaziz M. M. A.: Born in 1987, arrived Turkey with a charter flight at 1:43 a.m. and left with a private jet at 8:28 p.m.
8) Waleed A. M. A.: Born in 1980, arrived Turkey at 3:41 a.m. and left at 5:55 p.m. He traveled with a private jet both in arrival and departure.
9) Turki M. M. A.: Born in 1982, arrived Turkey at 3:39 a.m. and left at 5:44 p.m. He traveled with a private jet both in arrival and departure.
10) Thaar G. T. A.: Born in 1979, arrived Turkey at 3:41 a.m. and left at 5:44 p.m. He traveled with a private jet both in arrival and departure.
11) Maher A. M. M.: Born in 1971, arrived Turkey with a private jet at 3:38 a.m. and left at 5:49 p.m.
12) Fahad S. A. A.: Born in 1985, arrived Turkey with a private jet and left at 5:46 p.m.
13) Badr L. M. A.: Born in 1973, arrived Turkey at 3:41 a.m. and left at 5:44 p.m. He traveled with a private jet both in arrival and departure.
14) Mustafa M. M. A.: Born in 1961, arrived Turkey with a private jet at 3:41 a.m. and left at 12:18 a.m. on Oct. 3 with a charter flight.
15) Saif S. Q. A.: Born in 1973, arrived Turkey with a private jet at 3:41 a.m. and left at 12:20 a.m. on Oct. 3 with a charter flight.
A surveillance video image surfaced Oct. 8 showing Khashoggi walking into the consulate in Istanbul’s upscale 4th Levent neighborhood. No evidence of him leaving the consulate has been made public. Turkish officials suspect Khashoggi was killed at the Saudi consulate, allegations rejected by Saudi Arabia, which says he left the premises. Turkey has been given permission to search the diplomatic post, an extraordinary development that shows the increasing international pressure the kingdom faces over Khashoggi’s disappearance.
