The fire erupted at the basement of the Niğde Courthouse, a building where the provincial electoral board is also housed, around 7 p.m.
According to Demirören Media Agency, the basement, where archival documents were kept, were engulfed in flames, with a number of citizens claiming that it was intentionally burned.
Ballots from voting centers across the province that were brought to the building for vote-counting were transferred to a nearby building as precaution, as ordered by the board.
Police forces took extraordinary measures to protect the ballot boxes before the counting.
The fire was put out by firefighters after one hour.
