The Cat Town, which was established by the Samsun Metropolitan Municipality on an area of 20,000 square meters, has become a home for stray cats. The cats, which have no families, spend their time in this center specially designed for them.
Inside the town are playgrounds for them, consisting of wooden shelters, a wooden bridge and hammocks.
Home to nearly 400 cats, the Cat Town is playing works by famous composers Mozart, Beethoven and Vivaldi. Also with a new project, the cats are called to eat food with Mozart’s famous “Turkish March.” After hearing the march, the cats go to the feeding field.
Nurhan İşler, Samsun Metropolitan Municipality’s veterinary affairs director, said music had many positive impacts on humans, as well as animals, and that they had been playing classical music for about a year in the shelter.
Işler said the animals in the center were in a fully natural environment.
“We also try to train our animals. For example, they go outside the feeding field and we make them return to the field again by playing music."
"Now they come to the field with Mozart’s ‘Turkish March.’ As soon as we play this music, the hungry cats come to the feeding field. After eating their food, they leave this field to go to the other fields in the center."
"Our goal here is to give them the best and the freest life they can have rather than limit their freedom. We can accept all vulnerable animals on the street."
"They get sterilized here, and if they want to live here, they stay here."
