Turkey’s Black Sea provinces were repeatedly hit by hail storms in August and September this year.
Around 200 Brazilian mechanics, who are highly experienced due to destructive hailstorms in Brazil, had arrived in the Kastamonu province, where dozens of cars were thrashed in the area.
Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency reported Nov. 13 that most Brazilians left Kastamonu after Turkish customers were not satisfied with the services they received for the money they paid. A local mechanic told the agency that only 15-20 Brazilians were left in the city.
Bira De Carvalho, one Brazilian mechanic, said they also found the prices proposed by the Turks too low, paving way for their departure. “I will also plan to go to Uruguay in a month if the prices will remain at this level,” he said.
Around 1,000 of some 10,000 damaged cars in Kastamonu were repaired in the past two months, the report added.
Douglas Sabastiao Nunes Da Silva, one of the car mechanics who arrived in Kastamonu from Brazil, told the agency that his compatriots are world-renowned in repairing dents on hoods. “The hail stones that hit Kastamonu are so big that repair time is as long as four to six days,” he added.
Due to the large number of damaged cars, Kastamonu “transferred” car mechanics and body shop workers from other Turkish cities, too. Erkan Küçükkurt, a mechanic from Istanbul, is one of them.
“In Brazil, there is an academy for such repairs. They get their education there and then go to countries that are hit by hail storms,” Küçükkurt said, explaining the arrival of his Brazilian colleagues. “We repaired some 4,000 cars in Istanbul. Ten Brazilian colleagues are working with us in our company in Kastamonu,” he added.
