Philips plans to cut 1,600 jobs

Philips will reduce about 5 percent of the unit’s global workforce of 32,000, Arent Jan Hesselink, a spokesman for the Amsterdam-based company, said Saturday. Profitability at the healthcare unit fell in the third quarter on lower sales and falling demand.
