German Colonel Marcus Ellerman and his deputy Frank Sarach, who are leading NATO’s Patriot troops in the eastern province of Kahramanmaraş, yesterday watched a second division football match between Kahramanmaraş and Istanbul team Sarıyer.

Ellerman and Sarach sat together with fans of Kahramanmaraş, wearing the team’s colors to lend their support to the local team yesterday.

The support of the NATO commanders may have been crucial, as Kahramanmaraş defeated Sarıyer 3-0.
