Party offers lawmakers for overseas

ANKARA - Hürriyet Daily News
The main opposition party has proposed “overseas deputies” for the upcoming general elections, Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy Sencer Ayata said, calling on other parties for support.
In previous elections, the ratios of votes received by political parties were separated by cities, Ayata said, adding that this method was not fair.

Turkish citizens abroad should vote for lawmakers in the Turkish Parliament, the CHP deputy told reporters yesterday.

They are working on a proposal that would bring an election environment; Turkish citizens would vote for “overseas deputies” among those candidates, he said, adding that the elected deputies would be added to the 550 lawmakers in Parliament.

One lawmaker could correspond to nearly 300,000 voters and that would add up to 10 deputies, according to Ayata. The CHP lawmaker cited France, which elects 11 lawmakers through this method.
