The Anatolian Philharmonic Orchestra, founded by the Culture and Tourism Ministry, will interpret works played on the reed, which is an indispensable instrument used by the people of Anatolia to express their feelings. The founder director of the orchestra, Kenan Gökkaya, said it acted like a traveling culture center, bringing music to schools and villages during events organized in collaboration with the Culture and Education ministries.
Gökkaya said most shepherds in Anatolia play the reed perfectly, and the instrument’s continued existence was only down to shepherds.
“We want the reed, which is a very important part of Anatolian culture, to be played in villages again.”
Gökkaya said the Anatolian Philharmonic Orchestra attempted to reveal the life of shepherds in rural areas. “There is poetry that people have composed but can not be expressed in writing. We will listen to shepherds and gather their music, then we will have the nation listen to this music. In this way, the life of villagers and shepherds will be talked about again,” he said.
