An outstanding majority of the Turkish Cypriot people are patriotic, nationalists and have strong attachment to Turkey. Of course, they are not always in a social consensus on everything, but despite the political differences that persist at the back of their mind, the Turkish Cypriot people have always succeeded in returning to the normal course of life in every period immediately after the election, burying the electoral period tensions at the ballot box.

My teachers often used to say that it’s a virtue to be able to apologize, as during the middle education process, I was shaping up in their hands like a young tree. As is said, we are all doomed to make mistakes. In backward or less developed countries, particularly in those countries where politicians are bad, manipulative and corrupt, making premeditated mistakes and asking God for redemption probably might be a routine. Apologizing publicly, on the other hand, demonstrates a high level of self-respect, courage and wisdom.

Journalism requires dedication

I don’t know how true it is to say at the end of June 2021, but 2020 was a difficult year. It was a difficult year for journalism as well as public health. We have lost many valuable colleagues, such as my friend Omar Khashram, a reporter for al Jazeera because of the outbreak. Unlike other professions, journalists, like people involved in the health sector, could not enjoy the shield of working remotely. For this reason, we have worked as journalists and executives of journalism NGOs to convince the government to include journalists in the vaccine priority group. As a result of the efforts of the media organizations, the press card requirement for vaccinations was abolished, and all journalists were given priority in the vaccination. Yet we lost many colleagues to the pandemic.

High time for tourism subsidies

There is a new excitement, a growing hope in tourism facilities that have been closed for months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The vaccinations of 1.5 million or even more every day and the lowering of the age of vaccination eligibility to 25 led to the expectation that 50 percent or even more of the people of Turkey may have been vaccinated in the very near future. This expectation and hope are reflected in the tourism sector with the increased number of guests and hope at the touristic enterprises, which started reporting an increasing occupancy rate.
