The Antalya Women Museum’s “Woman of the Year Award” for 2017 was given to Şahika Ercümen with a ceremony on Feb. 1. The award from the “virtual museum” (www.antalyawomenmuseum.com) is handed out in the name of Jale İnan, Turkey’s first female archeologist who led the unearthing of the Ancient Hellenistic city of Perge, 15 kilometers east of the Mediterranean resort of Antalya. It is awarded every year on İnan’s birthday to women who have contributed to the culture of the Antalya and its region.
The Turkish and Russian presidents, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Vladimir Putin, reportedly expressed satisfaction over the outcome of the Sochi conference on Jan. 29-30 for bringing together government and opposition groups. During a telephone conversation on Jan. 31 they seemingly agreed that the decision to set up a committee to draft a constitution for transition in Syria represented the success achieved in Sochi.
The first surprise was a visit by Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Jan. 29 in Sochi, hours before the official start of the “Syrian National Dialogue Congress” regarding the future of Syria.
The “National Dialogue” talks for the future of civil war-hit Syria, scheduled for Jan. 29-30, are currently being held in Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi.
