One soldier killed in PKK attack in Turkey’s southeast

One soldier was killed on May 18 in the Nusaybin district of the southeastern province of Mardin during ongoing clashes with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).PKK militants opened fire on security forces in the Yenişehir neighborhood, wounding one soldier. The soldier, who was not immediately identified, was taken to Nusaybin State Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
A security forces operation is continuing in the district to cover up trenches, remove barricades and destroy hand-made explosives belonging to the PKK.
In a separate attack in the district, PKK militants detonated an explosive during the passage of security forces. Five soldiers were wounded in the attack.
