One worker was killed after being trapped under wreckage when an illegal coal mine collapsed in the southeastern province of Şırnak on June 3.Search and rescue teams took heavily wounded İbrahim Saknak out of the mine and sent him to Şırnak State Hospital, but he could not be saved.
The mine collapsed due to an unknown reason at around 12:30 p.m.
Turkey is still working to heal the wounds of the Soma disaster in which at least 301 workers lost their lives on May 13 in the deadliest mine accident in the country’s history.
Şırnak Gov. İbrahim Saknak said the mine had previously been shut down by government officials due to unsafe work conditions.
Saknak said necessary measures were being taken to prevent production at illegal mines, repeatedly warning people that they should not work in any sort of illegal mining facility.
