Turkey’s Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ), which first found its place last year in the top 100 “World Reputation Rankings” list compiled by Times Higher Education, has moved up to the top 51-60 band in this year’s list. The list is based on the “Thomson Reuters’ 2012 Academic Reputation Survey” held between March and April 2012, with the assistance of around 17,000 volunteer academics.
Times Higher Education says the top 100 list is “the world’s largest invitation-only academic opinion survey:” Basically, the survey asks academics from 144 countries to pick the 15 best universities and which university they would advise their graduates to study in.
ODTÜ was the sole Turkish university in the list this year, as in 2012. Universities form the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan dominated the top 10, with Harvard protecting its first place.
“ODTÜ’s climbing to the top 60 universities in the world - on a list in which no universities from countries such as Italy, Spain, India, Austria, Ireland, Greece, Denmark, Portugal, Norway, and Mexico found a place, and in which only 20 countries were represented - is a great honor and prestige for ODTÜ,” the university said in a statement yesterday.
