Number of refugees nears 90,000

The number of Syrian refugees who have fled the ongoing violence in their country and sought refuge in Turkey has reached 87,774.In a written statement released yesterday, the Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) said Syrians staying in Turkey were hosted in the towns of Altınözü, Yayladağı, Reyhanlı, Apaydın and Karbeyaz in the southern province of Hatay and in southeastern provinces of Şanlıurfa (Ceylanpınar), Gaziantep (Islahiye) and Kilis.
AFAD said Syrian citizens taking shelter in Turkey were provided with lodging, food, health services, security, social activities, education, religious services, translation services and communications. AFAD said a total of 127,053 Syrians had entered Turkey and 39,279 had returned to Syria of their own will.
