No more sweet incentives for brothel in Aegean city

An incentive “mistakenly” granted to a brothel in an industrial zone in the western province of Aydın was recently canceled due to complaints from businesspeople in the region.

An organized industrial zone was built around the brothel in 2005, allowing the location to obtain a state incentive that included cheaper electricity and public water along with discounts for spending.

However, as a result of a legal initiative begun by local businessmen in 2009, the incentives granted to the non-industrial facility were canceled, officials and business sources said.

No change in location

“Our struggle has just borne fruit,” a businessperson, who declined to be named, told Radikal.

The businessperson said the red tape regarding the issue took much time, while adding that the change they demanded was only on paper and that the facility had not been displaced.

“It does not harm us,” the source told Radikal.

Hulusi Aktaş, head of the Aydın Camber of Traders and Craftsmen, said at the time that their objection was limited to the incentive.

“There are lots of prostitutes working on the roadsides. Everything at the brothel is legal,” he said.
However, Aydın Chamber of Commerce President İsmail Hakkı Dokuzlu said he believed the opposite to be true.
