No casualties as fighter jet skids off track: Turkish Armed Forces
DİYARBAKIR
A Turkish F-16 Fighter skidded off the runway during take-off in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır. No casualties or damages were reported, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) stated, adding that an investigation was immediately launched.
However, according to initial reports one pilot was injured, although no official confirmation could be made.
The jet was preparing for a training flight but was unable to take off and was stuck on the edge of the runway due to a technical failure, Diyarbakır Governor Mustafa Toprak told Anatolia news agency. Toprak stressed the pilots were unharmed, the plane didn’t suffer any damage and the runway was closed only temporarily.
The Turkish military frequently uses F-16 planes in its fight against militants. The planes are used in attacks on the bases of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the region.
