Protestors in New York in the “Occupy Wall Street” movement sent a letter expressing solidarity with the Boğaziçi University students occupying the Starbucks shop on campus."To hold hungry students to the coercive mandates of global capital is an act of violence," the letter states. "But this time it was not tolerated."
Showing support for the students, the letter further emphasizes the universality of the fight against capitalism.
"Your struggle is our struggle," the letter read., "What we have learned from this struggle assures us that, in time, we will be there with you, and we will share a free and bountiful meal."
The students of Boğaziçi University have been occupying the Starbucks on campus for over a month now, protesting expensive campus food prices.
Starbucks, the latest addition to the campus food selection, was taken for its symbolic value despite administrative interventions to end the occupation.
Starbucks released a statement saying that it did not consider itself as being part of the conflict and hoped the situation would be resolved soon.
