New Year with Brazil’s superstar
ISTANBUL - Hürriyet Daily News
Ive Mendes
Ive Mendes, one of the pioneers of the new Brazilian sound in the international market, will perform three concerts at the Istanbul Jazz Center on Dec. 29, 30 and 31.Composer and singer Mendes released her first album, “Mr Bongo,” in 2002. Since then, her songs have remained as popular as ever and are still featured on CD compilations, as well as TV and ad campaigns around the world.
Mendes was introduced to the Spanish market as a singer comparable to the likes of Sade, Norah Jones, Bebel Gilberto, Björk and Dido, and has influenced the “Nu Jazz Britannic” while also participating in the acoustic movement that has emerged in the United Kingdom over the last decade.
Mendes’ music has influences of modern soul, smooth jazz and pop and has an originality that makes her unique in the market; many in Asia and Europe now refer to her as the Brazilian Queen of Smooth Jazz.
Her latest album, “Magnetism,” was released as a double album in Poland in October 2009 and has already reached Double Platinum sales status with amazing reviews so far.
