New presidential decree puts Badavut under protection
ANKARA
The Badavut region in the northwestern tourism destination of Ayvalık, also known as a “secret paradise,” has been registered as a “strictly protected sensitive area” with a presidential decree dated May 3.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has signed the decree, which lists the region as a natural site.
The decree stipulates that the General Directorate for Protection of Natural Assets, which is under the Environment and Urbanization Ministry, is tasked to “determine, register and declare the boundaries of natural assets, natural protected areas and special environmental protection areas.”
The famous Badavut, which draws the attention of many domestic and foreign tourists, is famous for its bird-watching spots, especially in fall, as the region hosts more than half of the 500 bird species seen in Turkey.
The president issued two more decrees in March 15, both declaring and registering Salda Lake in southwestern province of Burdur and Ildır Gulf in the Aegean province of İzmir as “special environmental protection areas.”
