Morocco’s ‘AKP’ pledges to form its own model
RABAT - Anatolia News Agency
New Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) said he admired the Turkish model of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and hoped his party would have its own model of the faction.
Benkirane has been likened to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan due to similarities of both leaders’ party emblems, their claims to favor moderate Islam and the same name of political parties.
“The Justice and Development Party was first established in Morocco. If the Justice and Development Party succeeded in Turkey, so can Morocco’s Justice and Development Party,” Benkirane said. He also congratulated the Turkish stance on Syria.
Benkirane said his party’s priorities were facilitating stability, protecting the monarchy and making reforms that the country needed. He said jobs, education and health were Morocco’s primary problems.
The PJD captured 107 seats in the assembly of 395 seats. Benkirane is holding talks with the political parties of Morocco for a coalition government. He is expected to form his cabinet in two weeks.
