More skulls unearthed in Diyarbakır diggings

Officials yesterday uncovered four more human skulls and bones during an excavation in the vicinity of a former gendarmerie building in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır, bringing the total number of human remains found in the area to 23.Twenty workers assigned by the Diyarbakır Governor’s Office to conduct the excavation work unearthed the human skulls and bones inside the historical İçkale locality of Diyarbakır’s Sur district.
Archeologists first uncovered an assortment of eight skulls and bones Jan. 11 while they were conducting restoration work. Eight of the skulls have been sent to Forensic Medicine Institute in Istanbul for further investigations, officials announced.
Meanwhile 36 families, whose relatives have been missing filed a criminal complaint in Diyarbakır prosecutor’s office yesterday.
