Media students given awards at event

Some 136 undergraduate communication students received a host of prizes at the 23rd Young Communicators’ Competition organized by the Aydın Doğan Foundation (ADV) in Istanbul’s Hilton Convention Center on Dec. 5 to help train qualified media personnel.“The Aydın Doğan Foundation continues to provide significant contributions to Turkey and its people both in the field of communication and education,” Youth and Sports Minister Suat Kılıç said during the ceremony.
Akdeniz University in the Mediterranean province of Antalya and Erciyes University in the Central Anatolian province of Kayseri jointly topped the list of prize winners, with both universities receiving some 14 prizes in all. Some 136 students from 17 universities won prizes in the competition with 79 different projects.
“The generation of information and the training of informed and skilled individuals are gaining increasingly greater significance in [helping] countries develop and preserve their competitive powers. Investing in humans is just as important today as investing in physical capital,” Candan Fetvacı, the head of the ADV’s executive board, said during the ceremony.
Some 1,104 students from 28 universities participated in the competition with 939 different projects in a host of fields, including written news, research and investigation, interview, documentary, photography, advertisement, public relations and social media projects.
