Alex Ferguson wasted little time in reigniting his fractious relationship with Rafael Benitez, welcoming the former Liverpool manager back to the Premier League with a dig at his old rival.

Nearly two years after being fired by Inter, Benitez took over as Chelsea coach following Roberto Di Matteo’s dismissal.

The Spaniard’s first chance of a trophy with Chelsea will come at next month’s Club World Cup, which he also won at Inter.

Ferguson says Benitez “is very lucky because ... in two weeks’ time he could have two world club titles to his name - and had nothing to do with the teams.”

The pair often clashed during Benitez’s time at Liverpool between 2004-10.
