A man injured in clashes between Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) supporters and locals in the northwestern province of Bursa on Oct. 30 died yesterday in hospital, 20 days after the incident.

İlker Kaya, 31, was shot in the head by an unknown person during violent clashes that occurred when BDP Bursa provincial organization members staged a protest in support of the hunger strikes being held at the time in Turkish prisons. BDP members marched to the ruling Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) Yıldırım district office.

During the clashes some 51 people, 38 of whom were BDP members, were detained and 12 BDP members are still under arrest. The violence was dispelled by joint police forces from Istanbul and the neighboring provinces of Sakarya, Eskişehir and Bilecik.

Kaya, who was reportedly in the group opposing the BDP’s protest, was sent to Şevket Yılmaz Education and Research Hospital’s intensive care unit for treatment. Funda Urul, 20, also sustained head injuries after being hit with a stone.
